Dental Onlays In Mukilteo

Restore and Protect Your Smile with Custom Dental Onlays in Mukilteo

When a tooth is too damaged for a filling but doesn’t need a full crown, a dental onlay offers the ideal solution. At Harbour Pointe Dental Arts, we use custom-crafted onlays to restore the strength and appearance of your tooth while preserving as much natural structure as possible. It’s a conservative yet durable option for long-lasting dental health.

What Is a Dental Onlay?

A dental onlay is a custom-made restoration that covers the chewing surface of a tooth—extending over one or more of the tooth’s cusps (points). It’s often referred to as a “partial crown” and is used when decay or damage is too extensive for a filling but doesn’t require full coverage like a traditional crown.

Onlays are typically made from high-quality porcelain or composite material, designed to blend naturally with your surrounding teeth.

Why Patients Choose Onlays

Conservative Treatment

Onlays allow us to preserve more of your natural tooth structure compared to full crowns.

Strong and Long-Lasting

Crafted from durable materials, onlays are built to withstand daily chewing and pressure.

Aesthetic Results

Porcelain or tooth-colored onlays are custom-matched to your smile for a seamless appearance.

Protects and Seals

An onlay covers and protects the damaged area while sealing out further decay.

Common Questions We Hear

How is an onlay different from a filling or crown?

Fillings repair smaller areas of decay, while crowns cover the entire tooth. Onlays are a middle-ground option—they cover more surface area than a filling but are less invasive than a full crown, preserving more of your natural tooth.

How long do dental onlays last?

With proper oral care and regular dental visits, onlays can last 10 to 15 years or even longer. Their lifespan depends on the material used and your oral hygiene habits.

Is getting an onlay painful?

Not at all. The procedure is typically done with local anesthesia, and most patients report little to no discomfort. Dr. Cline will ensure you're comfortable every step of the way.
